She sings the way folks used to-- from the soles of their feet, from the down deep of their souls. The way somewhere, in a church at the side of a red clay road, somebody is still singing. Her voice is at once powerful and agile, controlled and utterly unfettered. Lisala sings the song you've been listening for. A vocalist, songwriter and producer, Lisala has developed a futuristic R & B sound she calls Grit Soul that is sanctified by lush motifs that call vocal pioneers Chaka Khan, Ella Fitzgerald, and the Clark Sisters to mind. Lisalas unique compositions make for a listening experience that is new and old as earth. In 2003 Lisala emerged as a solo artist on the NYC music scene with her self produced, independent release entitled Get It. Get It received praise from media outlets across the US and abroad, and has been distributed in Japan. Lisalas soul stirring song Last Tear was featured on the popular NeoSoulUnited 2 compilation release in 2004. Get It also features a unique rendition of the soul classic Tell Me Something Good that got the legendary crooner Chaka Kahn to take notice and seek Lisalas songwriting talents. Lisala has also lent her unforgettable vocals to the improvisational ensemble Burnt Sugar, under the direction of Greg Tate. Burnt Sugar was a recipient of the coveted Arts International grant in 2003 and has been featured on BET on Jazz, and around the world at international festivals. She has also performed backing vocals with NYC soul musicians Angela Johnson, Alison Crockett. Brian Jackson, Dave Mullen, Danny Sadownick, and Tamar Kali. In 2006, Lisala collaborated with DJ Bobby D'Ambrosia on a remake of "Runaway Love" for Soulfuric Records. Her live shows have blown audiences away as Lisala brings creativity and adventure to R&B/Soul music. Lisala is currently recording her second release and continues to deliver her Grit Soul.
